On Saturday, a driver identified by Colorado College as one of its Campus Safety officers died in a crash near Monument Valley Park, raising the city's total for the year to 38. The city's traffic volume increases each year, so the number of accidents can be expected to increase too, city Traffic Engineer Kathleen Krager said.

Firefighters were able to rescue the people inside by pulling them out of a window. One person suffered burns while trying to put it out. The residence was significantly damaged.

He worked at Renaissance Secondary School and Castle View High School before that. He could be charged with sexual exploitation of a child.

Nordberg was elected to the legislature in 2012 and is serving his third term representing El Paso County’s House District 14. His resignation takes effect in January and a GOP vacancy is scheduled to meet later this month to fill the remainder of his term.

    PEYTON, CO – State troopers have ruled out drugs or alcohol in a deadly crash in eastern El Paso County. It happened Monday afternoon on Peyton Highway, about a half-mile south of Drennan Road. Investigators say 40 year old Thomas Boatman of Yoder lost control of an SUV, went off the road and rolled. Boatman was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown out of the vehicle. He did not survive. The cause of the accident is still being investigated.

    So many questions pervade the appraisal of Strawberry Fields open space, also called Strawberry Hill, that Colorado Springs City Council should revisit the land exchange that ceded the city's 186 acres to The Broadmoor, about a dozen people told Council at its meeting today, Dec. 12. The exchange, approved by Council on a 6-3 vote on May 24, 2016, has come into question due to the Colorado Board of Real Estate Appraisers' action against the Strawberry Fields appraiser, Kyle Wigington, who was hired by the city. The Independent reported the BOREA action in a story that also reported The Broadmoor's attorneys prepared amicus briefs for a Colorado Court of Appeals action involving the land and asked two nonprofits to submit them to the court. Neither agency — the Trails and Open Space Coalition, which backed the exchange, and the Palmer Land Trust, which holds the conservation easement on most of the property — agreed to do so.…

    FLORENCE, CO – A Florence man, who sexually assaulted several children and possessed thousands of images of child pornography, will spend the rest of his life in prison. 65 year old Garland Root was sentenced Monday to a minimum of 3,180 years. He pleaded guilty in July to a total of 53 counts. Root was already a registered sex offender at the time of his arrest. He was previously convicted three times, including once in 1984 for “lewd and lascivious acts.”

Eleby was with his mother’s ex-fiance, 28-year old Kyle McClain, at the time of the incident. On Wednesday, McClain plead guilty to manslaughter. He admitted to drinking alcohol before going on the hike that investigators said presented “obvious and apparent danger” to the victim. McClain will be sentenced in February and could face up to 12 years in jail.
